Anbirkku Alavillai showing drenched

The premier showing of the Tamil film Anbirkku Alavillai was drenched as Chennai received rain for the first time in 6 months. The flooding kept all but the most serious away –  there were 70 attendees to this first-ever film that advocates for professional marriage counseling for troubled couples.

Out of the 70 attendees, 34 turned in responses.

A senior pastor of a large church in Chennai said that the film “had a heart for family life on Godly love” and “the film is needed greatly”.

Two Hindu counselors attended and both wanted to use the film in their marriage counseling practice. One wrote, “The film has good communication of death, love and family counseling.”

23 out of 34 wrote that the storyline and script was Very Good or Good

21 of the 34 responders believe that the songs (integral to any Indian film) were Good or Very Good and

24 of 34 responders wrote that Anbirkku Alavillai supports and endorses marriage counseling!

The next step is to finalize censor formalities and find a theatrical distributor. Because the film has no cheap jokes and Hindu temples the commercial distributors do not wish to take risks. The solution is to “four wall” theatres and pre-sell tickets. Both of these options are expensive.

As I write, we are working on the sub-titles and a New York film festival has already agreed to enter the film. In addition, the DVD version will have the film, a CD on marriage resources and the audio CD. In addition, distributors are being approached for Tamil TV/DVD distribution in Malaysia/Singapore and Europe.
